Docks & Boat Lifts for Mississippi Lake and Lanark County

The lake's level is managed by a dam. Your dock should be ready for every setting.

Mississippi Lake sits just upstream of Carleton Place, close enough to Ottawa to be a full-time home for some and a weekend escape for others. What surprises newcomers is how much the lake is managed. Its level is controlled by the Carleton Place Dam, which the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority owns and operates.

That makes Mississippi Lake predictable in some ways and demanding in others. Below is how the year usually unfolds, and what it means for your dock and boat.

Your Waterfront by the Calendar

Spring

The water: rises with snowmelt and rain; in wet years, flood warnings can cover the watershed.

Your dock: fixed decks need clearance, while floating docks ride up with the lake.

Summer

The water: held near target levels by the Carleton Place Dam.

Your dock: prime season for boating, swimming and lifts set at summer depth.

Mid-September to Early October

The water: the fall drawdown at the dam, weeks earlier than most lakes in the region.

Your dock: check boat lift clearance early; ramps get steeper as the lake drops.

Winter

The water: held at winter target levels.

Your dock: a good time to plan changes before spring installs.

Built for a Lake That Moves

Floating is forgiving. A floating dock keeps the same height above the water from the spring peak to the September low, so the step onto your boat never changes.

Adjustable when you want a fixed deck. FLOE docks come in modular wheel-in and sectional styles with easy-level legs, handy for shallow, gradual shorelines where you reset for the season.

Lifts and ports that keep up. A FLOE vertical lift can be re-levelled with a drill in minutes when the drawdown starts, and Wave Armor ports for pontoons and PWCs simply float down with the lake.

When the Spring Is a Wet One

In high-water years, homes along Mississippi Lake have been surrounded by floodwater as the whole watershed rose. A dock planned only for summer levels can end up underwater or pulling at its connections. We design for the high end of your range, not just the average.
