Docks & Boat Lifts for Kingston and Frontenac Lakes

Granite, ledges and steep paths to the water? We plan around the rock.

Drive north from Kingston on Highway 38 or Perth Road and the land changes fast. Fields give way to bare pink rock, and the lakes tuck into it: Loughborough, Sydenham, Crow, Bobs, Sharbot. This is the Frontenac Arch, a band of granite and gneiss more than a billion years old that ties the Canadian Shield to the Adirondacks.

It makes for stunning cottage country. It also means the bottom under your dock may be anything from a smooth shelf to a jumble of boulders. Our longtime customers on Loughborough and Crow Lake will tell you the dock that works best is the one chosen for that rock.

Match Your Shoreline to a Dock

  • A flat rock shelf in water under 6 feet: start with pole docks. Light legs stand on the shelf without anything driven into the lakebed.
  • Boulders and an uneven bottom: look at FLOE docks. Each easy-level leg is set to its own rock, adjusted from the deck.
  • A ledge that drops into deep water: consider floating docks. The dock floats past the ledge and a ramp spans the drop.
  • An exposed point that takes the ice: a tower lift dock brings its frame up out of the water before winter.
  • Deep water off a rocky point: add a swim raft for a safe place to swim where the bottom is far down.

Most Frontenac shorelines mix two or three of these, which is why we look before we quote.

Steep Lot? Plan From the Top Down

On many Frontenac properties the hardest part is not the water, it is the trip down to it. We plan the ramp angle at both high and low water, think about handholds and landings, and adapt how we install to your access, including assembling sections right at the shoreline when that is the only practical route.

Frontenac Dock Questions

Do I need a Cataraqui Conservation permit for my dock?

Often not for a removable dock. Around Kingston and South Frontenac, Cataraqui Conservation may require one when new supports are attached to the lakebed or shore, and does require one for a new permanent dock or a major repair to one. Lakes farther north may fall under a different authority.

Can a new dock work with what is already on my shoreline?

Sometimes. On Crow Lake, a family's old concrete abutments became the anchor point for their new floating dock. We will tell you honestly what is worth keeping.
