Docks & Boat Lifts for Devil, Buck and Wolfe Lake

Deep, clear water deserves a dock that sits lightly on it.

Between Westport and Perth Road Village sit some of the cleanest, clearest lakes in South Frontenac. Devil Lake and Buck Lake share their western shores with Frontenac Provincial Park, so the view across the water is often nothing but rock and forest. Both are lake trout lakes, and the people who own cottages on them tend to care a great deal about keeping them that way.

Most cottages here sit down a private lane, high on the rock above deep water. That combination of steep lots, deep water and a lake you want to protect is exactly what we plan for.

Deep Water Off the Rock

On these lakes the bottom often falls away fast. That is great for swimming, and it changes the dock. In water deeper than six feet, a floating dock is usually the right call. It rides at the same height above the water all season, and a ramp carries you down from the rock to the deck.

Our aluminum floating docks are built on welded marine-grade frames with stainless steel fasteners, with anchor chain slots welded right to the frame so the dock stays put. Standard frames and floats carry a 10-year warranty, and our Premium floating frame comes with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty.

A Light Footprint on a Clean Lake

Fisheries and Oceans Canada prefers floating, post-supported and cantilever docks because they leave the lake bottom undisturbed and let water move freely along the shore. That is also how we build.

It can make the permit side simpler too. In Cataraqui Conservation's watershed, removable docks generally do not need a permit. That includes floating docks on anchors and aluminum-framed docks resting on posts. Permanent designs like crib docks do. Rules vary from lake to lake, so check with your conservation authority and South Frontenac Township before work begins.

Before Our Site Visit: Five Things Worth Noting

A few quick notes from you help us arrive with the right ideas.

  • The depth where the dock will end. A rough reading at the spot where you want to swim or tie up the boat.
  • How you get to the water. A lane to the shore, a long set of steps or a steep path all change how we deliver and install. If there is no way down by land, we bring it in by water.
  • What the shoreline is made of. Solid rock, boulders or a patch of soft bottom.
  • Which way the bay faces. Open water to the west or a tucked-in cove makes a difference to wind and waves.
  • How you will use it. Boat, swimming, fishing off the end or a place for the whole family to sit.

Ending the Season on a Steep Lot

Carrying dock sections up a rock face every fall gets old fast. A tower lift dock stays where it is. At the end of the season you lift out the decking panels and winch the frame up out of the water, and almost all of our tower docks can be winterized by one person.

The winch needs solid anchor points like rock or trees, and these shorelines have plenty of both. Our tower lift docks are hand-built by our welders in Portland.

For Boats and Swimming

  • Boats: A Wave Armor drive-on port floats beside your dock, so deep water is no obstacle. Drive on at the end of the day and roll off in the morning.
  • Swimming: An Otter Island swim raft is 10 by 8 feet, holds up to 3,000 lbs and comes with a swim ladder. In water this clear, it quickly becomes the place everyone wants to be.

Questions From Park-Side Cottagers

My cottage sits well above the lake. Can you still build a good dock?
Yes. A ramp or gangway sized to your grade handles the climb, and we plan the angle so the walk down feels steady.

Will a floating dock hold its place in deep water?
It will. The anchor chains attach to slots welded into the frame, and we set the anchoring to your depth and exposure.

Tell us which lake you are on and send a photo from the water if you have one. We will come out, look at the rock and the depth, and design a dock that fits the shoreline and leaves the lake as clean as you found it.
